Dear all. After having no luck direct with IBM support, I'm looking for an answer to a very simple question:
Background: When DOORS is set to use System User Names, the Administrator role needs to be associated with a System User name. The 9.2 DB Admin is currently linked to another System User Name. When the data file is transferred from old > new box, new database inherits defined access rights / users etc, inc Admin. I know the System User who is associated with current 9.2 Admin, but we need to change it over to myself for pre and post migration data integrity checks and upgrade. Does anyone know how to change the current System User Name associated with the Administration role? I have looked or settings using the Admin access on the new 9.5 box, but cannot find any options for changing the association. Nothing in documentation either. Any help appreciated. Thanks Alex DVC8_Alex_Rowley - Fri Jul 11 06:00:37 EDT 2014 |
Re: Change System User name associated with DOORS Admin Hi Alex, This is a wild guess because I have no way to test this here. Login to windows as the old admin user and launch DOORS. Turn off system logins and set the Administrator password (important) Login to windows as you. Launch DOORS using password. Check in Tools>Options that your system name is correct. Turn on using system logins. Might work! Tony |
Re: Change System User name associated with DOORS Admin Alex, I have a vague recollection that this is controlled from the LDAP server end of things, not from DOORS. When you get to the bottom of it, will you post the answer here?

Long time :-)
- Login to windows as the old admin user and launch DOORS (done) - Check in Tools>Options that your system name is correct. (Done) - Turn on using system logins. (Done) ** At the end of the aforementioned steps, there is no 'prompt' to allow you to reassign the Admin Role to another Sys User Name at the point at which you re-check the Use System User Names option. If I attempt the 'Login to windows as you. Launch DOORS using password' using my own System User name and PW, the option to change login policy to System User names is not available. .. Thanks for response! A

Hazel Hi Hazel, Long time as well! :-) The DB is not connected to LDAP / RDS. The current set-up uses a local directory (in DOORS - created by me) and cross checks / authenticates with the users name (System User Name / Alias) which user has used to login and gain access to their machine. Initially I thought DOORS was using LDAP too!! Alex |

Alex I seem to remember that the only way to set/reset the system user name for Administrator is to log in as Administrator, in the DOORS explorer choose tools->options and on the general tab there you see and can modify this info. Just make sure that you do not have the same system user name associated to two different users, or you will have a problem! I would suggest setting up a specific system user name just used for accessing DOORS as Administrator.

/sekrbo Well done sekrbo! Thank you. Seems all too obvious. :-) Thanks again. Alex |
Re: Change System User name associated with DOORS Admin selrbo's response seems best. Looks like you need the cooperation of the old Admin one time to change the system user name. The "Administrator" is user #1; but all the other DB-Admins are blocked from seeing that account. So only the "Administrator" can modify the "Administrator" user settings, and that makes perfect sense. As for "system" user names. Consider creating a network user perhaps "Doors-Admin" and associate the "Administrator" with that. Give that password out to few folks. -Louie |

I wonder if on the new Server you create a local user with the same name as the existing user mapped to the Administrator. Loginto new server with that name, log into DOORS, change the system user name, save exit. Delete that temporary local user. You may need to disconnect the server from the network in order to create the account. -Louie |

That is VERY good advice Louie. I've helped upgrade a few DOORS databases and finding the password for the Administrator is one of the greatest and most time consuming parts of the upgrade process. /sekrbo |
